How do vouchers have to be structured, which legal deadline has to be observed and of course the question of how to make corresponding changes in the Regiondo Dashboard.

1. What is the best way to create a voucher?
1.1 What should a voucher look like?
- It must be in writing
- The voucher must include the amount.
- The issuer of the voucher should be clearly visible. However, a signature is not necessary.
- The voucher should contain a clearly legible date of issue. This is important for the periods until which the voucher is valid.
1.2 How long do you need to redeem a voucher?
An unlimited gift voucher can be redeemed for three years. The general limitation period applies here. The period starts at the end of the year in which the voucher was issued; for vouchers for Christmas 2017 this means the end of 2017. Therefore, please do not forget the date of issue on the voucher.
1.3 Can a voucher be limited in time?
You can limit the validity of a voucher. The requirements for pre-formulated time limits on a voucher are quite high. There is no explicit regulation for this.
- In a judgment, a 10-month redemption period for a gift voucher in the electrical trade was classified as too short.
- In another judgment, it was also considered ineffective if a gift voucher expired one year after it was issued.
IHK tip: The easiest way is to set the legal limitation period. Then a voucher must be redeemed for three years. Please note that the period does not begin until the end of the year in which the voucher was issued. If the voucher is issued this year, it must be redeemed by 31 December 2020.
1.4 Does a voucher have to be paid out to the customer?
- The customer has no claim to receive the voucher paid out, for example if he does not like the articles.
- If the retailer cannot provide the service for which the voucher was created, he must pay out the voucher.
1.5 Is a voucher transferable?
Even if the voucher is issued in the name of the presenter, it can be redeemed by other persons. Therefore, you can give away vouchers to anyone.
1.6 Can vouchers be redeemed only partially?
Neither the law nor the courts have clarified how vouchers that are not fully redeemed are handled.
Tip: Assume that the customer is generally entitled to a denomination of the voucher. For example, note the remaining amount on the voucher.
There is no entitlement to have the remaining amount of the gift voucher paid out. Many merchants pay out vouchers as a gesture of goodwill if more than half of them have been redeemed.

2. How can I edit the duration of a voucher in my Regiondo Dashboard?
You have the possibility to set the validity of vouchers individually. You will find this setting in the account unde “Manage offers > Online-Buchung”
If you do not make a setting, the validity of gift certificates is always one year from the date of purchase.
If you want to change the validity, select the second selection point under "Gift Vouchers Expiration Date" or "Value Vouchers Expiration Date" and define your desired validity. For example, if you enter a "3" in the field, the voucher will be valid three years after the purchase date.
Finally, close this change with "Save".
